Nothing quite encapsulates the busy lives of families quite like the month of December... with holiday parties and school concerts and plays filling up the calendar quickly. Our email boxes receive twice the emails, mostly full of advertisements for month-long "black-Friday" and "Cyber-Monday" events, despite their monikers that suggest otherwise. ...
As a father of two teenagers, I understand the chaotic nature of the season very well. The last thing I want to do is add another thing to your email box that you are too busy to read and digest, so I devised this method of posting the current newsletter on our website so that you can come back to this page at any time to see the latest happenings and events without the need to filter through your email box to find something you never had time to read when it arrived! If you bookmark this page, you can easily access it at your leisure.
The Program Year Marches on....
I want to be sure that you put the annual Christmas Pageant on your calendar. This 20-30 minute play happens on
December 15 during the 11am worship service, and is open to children of all ages. I do my best to write a pageant that will really help showcase the incredible talent we have right here in the ALUCC family. This is one of the two, large cornerstone events that showcase the
ALUCC KIDS Drama Club
program. The date has passed for your child to have a speaking role, but ANY child that shows up the day of the pageant can join in the fun with a walk-on role. Just be sure to be here and ready to go by 10:30 AM in December 15. The kids participating in the pageant will all meet in the chapel.
Mid High Mayhem (Youth Group for grades 4 and 5 - November 4) and Primary Pandemonium (Youth Group for kids in grades 2 and 3 November 18) take the month of December off, but will be back in the new year.
On December 22, we will have one single service at 10 AM to hear our new Senior Minister candidate preach. Immediately following this service there will be a congregational meeting to vote on his installation and call to ministry here at ALUCC.
On Christmas Eve we have three services, with the 5 PM service designed specifically for busy families with little kids! We gather together to hear the band play, then listen to "The Night Before Christmas" (modified completely to tell the story of Christ's birth, of course!) and end by singing Silent Night while holding battery operated candles. The entire service is quick and designed to keep everyone's attention.
While there will be no Sunday School during the Christmas Eve services or on December 29, there is Sunday School available at both services on regular Sunday mornings for grades up through 5th. Know that vast majority of families attend the 11 AM worship service, so there are more children present. Nursery Care is available at 11 as well, and there is a Children's Time during the worship service. Of course, your children are welcome at either service!
As 2025 dawns, I want you to know that it is my hope in the beginning of the coming year to become more connected than ever with the children and families of ALUCC, including spending more time in the Sunday School rooms on Sunday morning. You may not see me in the sanctuary as often, but please know that I am still available to you should you need anything. I look forward to getting back into the regular rhythm of the year in January, but until then, I hope to see you at one of the many services still remaining this year.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Beau

For years now, Common Sense Media's website has been my go-to for parenting tips and advise. It's far safer than asking internet friends on social media because they actually do their research! They give information about the things you need to be aware of as a parent in today's busy world. They also give basic rundowns of movies, TV, entertainment, apps and more so you can know what your kids may be getting into before they get too involved. They manage to do all this without a political bent that will lead you down the wrong path as well. Just good common sense for parents!
