Summer is here!

For the Children and Family Ministry here at Avon Lake United Church of Christ, summer means one thing - VBS! Vacation Bible School is the largest single outreach program we have to the surrounding community. Every year more than 100 kids and 50+ volunteers spend a week of the summer singing songs, dancing, playing games, doing crafts, science experiments, and learning about God's incredible LOVE and acceptance. Our program is not like other VBS programs, even those that might have the same name! We modify the program to include more music and drama, we include special additional programming and even free snow cones for the WHOLE family on the last day!

SUMMER MEANS ONE THING.....VBS!

As of June 1, we still have 9 spots left for kids who would like to be a part of the fun and craziness this summer. If your child is between the ages of 3 and 10, don't hesitate to sign them up for a week of fun. You can find the registration down below.

Our planting of the Secret Garden was a success - over 100 marigolds were planted along the boundary of the garden, which helps to discourage deer from wandering in and munching on the plants. The kids had a blast getting their hands in the dirt, and afterward we enjoyed popsicles together on the playground.

Our first experience with the Avon Lake Memorial Day parade was also a blast! I drove my big blue bus, filled with kids who got to throw candy to the spectators. It was a great morning for everyone involved!

Summer Sunday School happens during the 10am service every Sunday, and looks a little bit different than what happens during the program year. We like to go outside when weather permits, so look for that to happen often during the summer months.

Though our monthly gatherings of youth group for grades 2 through 5 has paused for the summer, you will see these get back up in action in the fall. Keep checking back or bookmark this page to look for the dates. I will post them as soon as I know when they are.
