"Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth."

      -Psalm 96

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is the group of volunteers which sings for the 9:00 service on Sundays. The choir’s function is to lead the congregation in the singing of hymns, and offer special musical selections which aim to draw us all deeper into the spirit of prayer. The chancel choir is proud to have members of all ages and experience levels. Singing in the choir offers challenges and opportunities to learn more about music and singing, but in a friendly, low pressure environment.

All are welcome to join the chancel choir, even without any prior musical experience. In general, the choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the ALUCC Sanctuary from Labor Day until Memorial Day, with a few opportunities to sing during the summer as well.

Worship Band

Our Worship Band leads music for the 11:00 worship service roughly every other Sunday during the programming year, and occasionally throughout the summer. The band is made up of musicians who play drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, and a rotating lineup of singers.

The band is led by music director Scott Ewing, who strives to foster and environment where all the members are free to offer up their creative ideas, making arrangements of popular praise and worship songs which are unique to the members of this band. The band has an ever-growing catalog of songs - if you haven’t heard your favorite in worship yet, there’s a good chance that you will soon. Anyone interested in joining the band or sitting in for a Sunday service should contact Scott Ewing to discuss.

Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir is a wonderful way to get some experience making music if you don’t think of yourself as a singer, but still want to participate in our church’s music ministry. Members learn to read music and work as an ensemble. Each member is typically only responsible for a couple of handbells during a given piece of music.

Like the chancel choir, it’s a fun, low-pressure way to learn more about how music works, but with no requirement to sing! The handbell choir rehearses on Monday evenings in the ALUCC Sanctuary, and plays for 9:00 worship services approximately once per month.

Local Musicians

Avon Lake UCC has a long history of welcoming musicians, choirs and groups to perform in our space.  Traveling choirs, ensembles and recording artists have used our space to rehearse, record and entertain for decades!

In recent years, we have been honored to be a regular venue for the award winning and world famous Apollo's Fire.  Oberlin Choristers, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and Anne E. DeChant also rehearse and hold concerts in our sanctuary.  Solid Brass brings their joyful noise to our worship services several times each year.
